Udayana (Skt.; Wyl. bde spyod) — a contemporary of the Buddha, he murdered his mother when she tried to prevent him from sleeping with someone else's wife, but through the strength of his practice and determination to purify his crime (one of the five crimes with immediate retribution), he later was born in the god realms and attained the level of a stream-enterer.
