Tokdens (Wyl. rtogs ldan), literally meaning 'realised ones', are yogic practitioners who devote their whole lives to retreat and meditation practice.

The 4th Khamtrul Rinpoche, Tenzin Chökyi Nyima, of the Drukpa Kagyü school has established in the 1700s a distinct lineage and tradition of tokdens, who are also perfect monks, and follow a lifelong path of intensive yogic practices and lifestyle. After spending at least 12 years in strict retreat, practitioners would receive their name of 'tokden', along with special white robes. After that, tokdens may occasionally come out of retreat to participate in special ceremonies and teach.
