Ignorance (Skt. avidyā; Tib. མ་རིག་པ་, ma rigpa), or mis-knowing. The failure to recognize our true nature. It is also the first of the twelve links of dependent origination and the basis of all other destructive emotions.
不認識自己的真實本性，如此的錯誤了知而稱之，十二緣起的第一支，也是所有其他煩惱的基礎。
~ 譯註：愚痴的藏文為 གཏི་མུག，無明的藏文為 མ་རིག་པ 。此外，愚痴的英文可能是 ignorance, delusion, bewilderment.... ，但如果加上了 fundamental 或 all-obscuring 這類的字眼則指無明。參見 Two kinds of ignorance 二無明 與 Three kinds of ignorance 三無明。
